Alliance of Neighbors Assisting Kids (ANAK) is a project of the Philippine-American Association of the Treasure Coast, Inc., a nonprofit, 501(c)3, tax-exempt organization.

The mission of ANAK is to enrich the lives of underprivileged children in the Philippines by partnering with U.S. and Philippine charities in distributing toys, clothing, school supplies and other necessities to make each child feel valued and help in their personal development.

* Get involved. Take a stand and make a difference to the lives of underprivileged kids in the Philippines. Children from poor families run the risk of becoming homeless, abandoned, neglected, malnourished or runaway kids living on the streets.
* Give. Your cash and/or in-kind donations of new or like new toys, clothing and educational supplies to ANAK are greatly needed.
* Be a volunteer. Volunteering is rewarding. It makes you feel good, creates meaningful experiences and opportunities to utilize your talents.

* As we work together with our neighbors and partners, our greatest return is the satisfaction of giving back and making a difference in the lives of poor children in the Philippines.
* Your cash and/or in-kind donations are tax deductible.
* We want to keep you informed. We will provide you with: e-newsletters; video of activities; and, photos and stories of children you helped.

Dear Ms. Canoy: Greetings from Cathedral of Christ the Redeemer, Gingoog City, Misamis Oriental. Christ the Redeemer Parochial School, an Educational Ministry of Cathedral of Christ the Redeemer would like to thank ANAK for the books that were given to us. Mr. Tito Reyes and Ms. Lali Carpio brought the books to us. Christ the Redeemer Parochial School is a nonprofit school. Most of our students are from the depressed area, and some whose parents are members of our Feeding Program. Enclosed herewith are some pictures for your perusal. Again, thank you for making us recepients of the books. God's blessings be with you in your endeavor. +Bishop Raymundo Abogatal, Jr.Diocese of Northern Mindanao

My search was finally over when I saw for the first time the orphanage in my hometown (south of the Philippines) last December.
It was a rainy late afternoon and the road was bumpy and muddy. Chet, Angie, Lisa and I were accompanied by my brother to Bahay Canossa (BC), a home for children and young adults who are abandoned, neglected, abused or living on the streets. A few have special needs and been there since. The home also provides temporary housing for children whose parents are in jail. BC is located in Tablon, Misamis Oriental, and a town outside of Cagayan de Oro City. The home was donated by the archdiocese and is run by Canossian Sisters, Sr. Maria (Italian) and Sr. Juvy (Filipina). Part of their mission is to provide education by sending the children to nearby schools. We dropped one balikbayan box filled with toys, books and clothing for the kids. We also distributed candies which they all loved and enjoyed! The children entertained us with songs and their smiles lifted our spirits.

On the north, Lisa and I, accompanied by a close friend, also dropped one balikbayan box to The Missionaries of Charity along Tayuman Ave., Tondo, Manila. The nuns who run the place belong to Mother Teresa’s (of Calcutta, India) order. It is a home for abandoned young children who are either severely malnourished or have irreparable physical ailments. For this reason, we were not allowed to take pictures. We spoon fed a few kids; some were so weak they could barely move. The sight was very touching and we left the home feeling very sad.
Thank you for all the support.

To All Our PhilAm Members, Will you join me in helping our Kababayans?
I am sending this to you as a fellow member of the PhilAm Kapamilya at Kapuso. I’m sure that you must have had, at one point in time, needed support and help settling in our area. Believe me, I’ve been there. It can be overwhelming especially for those who came straight from Philippines.
This is where TULUNGAN PROJECT falls in. The purpose of this project is to help our new “kababayan” with resources that can help ease their transition. It’s a very simple project. All we need is you as a DONOR or as a RECEPIENT and a couple minutes of your time.
To fulfill our objective, we ask that you donate items that you no longer need such as sofa, fridge, baby items, utensils, pots and pans, etc. Since we do not have a place to store these items, we ask that you hold on to them within reasonable time until needed. Please e-mail Anje Deocampo at deocampo@bellsouth.net or contact him at 772-342-6719 and provide him descriptions or pictures of the items so he can publish them on our website under “Tulungan Project“ page.
If you know any kababayan that can benefit from this project, please let them visit our website at www.philam-tc.org to check for available items. Also, please get their names, phone #, and email address and pass the information to Geoff Villarasa or they can contact us directly. Once we have their information, we will then make arrangement for pickup.
It’s very simple, right? All we need is you to make this happen. I thank you in advance for fully supporting this project.
Sincerely,
Geoffrey Villarasa

Dear members of the Philippine-American Association of the Treasure Coast:
Greetings! Yet again, it has been quite a productive year for our beloved Association, and as the year draws to a close a new beginning has emerged. The Philippine-American Association of the Treasure Coast has recently created a youth division, of which I, Matthew Frias, am a presiding chairman. This youth division is specifically designed to strengthen the bonds between the Association and the youths in our community. Whether these bonds are culturally related, religiously related, socially related, or simply among the youths in this division, I hope that each and every single member that will join this “youth group” will be satisfied with joining the Phil-Am Association and becoming involved with this Association. Joining this group would definitely increase the awareness for both outsiders and members of the Association about our Philippine community and also our youths in the area. Santiago Reyes and I have been looking forward to sharing what talents each of us possesses with our fellow Filipino youths in the area. We look forward to helping our parent organization through various fundraisers and we also are eager to bond with and assist the other Filipino youths. Some of the youths we have known for quite some time, as we have been lifelong members of the Phil-Am, but others are rather new to the Phil-Am Association. As stated before, this youth group would increase the members’ awareness about not only the organization but also of each other member. Hopefully because of this youth group, this age bracket of our community would become more involved with the Philippine community in the future, and on behalf of Santi and I, we Co-chairmen of this group are ready to face this challenge of uniting the youths of our Filipino community here in and around the Treasure Coast.
Sincerely,
Matthew Frias
